Orion

Orion, the Hunter: d=5 deg, a=5h: Orion, a famous hunter, was in love with Menelope, one of the Seven Sisters (who make up the Pleides, as famous star cluster). Unfortunately for him, she wasn't interested. Orion died with his love unfulfilled, stepping on the Scorpion, whose venom ended his life. The Greek Gods took pity on him and placed him, his dogs, and several of the creatures he hunted forever in the Heavens.

Mintaka (+2.2), Alnilam (+1.7), and Alnitak (+2.1), the three belt stars, are perhaps the most easily recognizable pattern on the sky anywhere in the Northern Hemisphere. In addition, Betelgeuse and Rigel are two of the brightest stars in the sky, at +0.5 and +0.1 magnitudes, respectively.
